4 Tips The Next Time You’re Buying New Eyeglasses

Buying new glasses can seem overwhelming and stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. The key is to know what you’re looking for before you start trying on new frames to reduce any feelings of anxiety.

Glasses are still quite fashionable and convenient, especially with advanced lens-making technology. But there are also more options for where and how to purchase them than ever before. Keep reading for 4 tips to follow the next time you’re buying new eyeglasses!

1.    Make Sure Your Prescription is Up To Date

If you have a refractive error and need glasses or contacts to see, you should have an eye exam annually. Every year, having an eye exam ensures that your prescription is up to date and that your eyes are in good health.

If you haven’t had an eye exam in over a year, get one before you even start looking for new eyeglasses. It’s in your best interest to have a current prescription so you can get the most out of your new glasses.

2.    Decide Where to Buy

Should you get your glasses in a store, at your eye doctor’s office, or online? It’s all up to you. All of these options have benefits, so it’s best to go with what you’re most comfortable with.

Are you not thrilled about the idea of buying online? At Shepherd Eye Center, we have optical shops at four of our locations.

These optical shops are fully staffed with certified opticians, along with hundreds of frames and styles to choose from. Are you looking for a pair of glasses that you can comfortably wear while working out?

Try out Flexon frames! Our opticians are more than happy to help you find the perfect frames, no matter what you’re looking for.

3.    Find a Style That’s Right for You

What kind of glasses are you looking for? Do you know what you need your glasses to do?

Are they for professional use, casual use, or both? Do you want something unconventional or plainer?

It’s best to choose these things based on both your personality and occupation. If you’re having trouble finding the proper shape, you can find plenty of charts online that show which frame shapes will best suit your face shape.

You can also try on glasses in person to get a better feel for what looks good on you and what you like. But don’t feel restricted if going with a specific shape doesn’t feel right for you! Instead, choose something that you both like and that works best for your needs.

4.    Know How Much You Want to Spend and What Add-Ons Cost

Have an idea of how much you want to spend before looking online or in a store. Glasses and frames also come with plenty of add-ons, like anti-reflective coating, polycarbonate lenses, and transition lenses.

Consider what you need. Do you spend a lot of time in front of a computer for work? Having lenses that reduce the glare of a computer screen may be a good thing to consider.

Are you worried about scratching your glasses and causing them damage? You can look into scratch-resistant coatings as well. Most of these add-ons will add to the total cost of your glasses, so make sure they are something you need and will benefit from.
