We understand the growing concern surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) across the communities we serve. The health and safety of our patients, physicians, and staff is our top priority. Shepherd Eye Center has been actively preparing its offices, physicians, and staff to identify possible patients with the COVID-19 virus and to prevent transmission to themselves, other patients, and visitors. We have also created a team of management and physicians to review our response as the situation evolves.

How is Shepherd Eye Center monitoring the situation?

As the situation evolves, we are keeping up with and following the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); the World Health Organization (WHO); American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), as well as other professional societies; and state and local health departments.

How is Shepherd Eye Center preparing for COVID-19?

  • Our primary duty is to safeguard the health and well-being of our patients and staff by preventing the spread of the infection at our offices.
  • We are continuously monitoring, reviewing and improving our response as the situation evolves.
  • We are keeping all staff updated with any new recommendations for preventing the spread of COVID-19.
  • We are telling sick employees to stay home.
  • We are increasing awareness of our staff to be alert for signs and symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Increased sanitizing of high-traffic and high-touch areas by office staff.
  • We are practicing safe hand hygiene in all our clinics.
  • We are proactively alerting patients who are ill, exposed to COVID-19 or those who have recently visited high-risk countries to reschedule appointments.
  • Staff who travel to areas identified by the CDC with a “Level 3 Travel Health Notice will be required to extend their time away from work by an additional 14 days for home self-monitoring.
  • Waiting room chairs have been spread out to help comply with social distancing.

How can you help?

  • All patients are required to use hand-sanitizing gel (or hand-washing) upon entering and exiting examination rooms.
  • Social distancing measurements are enforced, like the option to wait in your vehicle and spaced out seating in the lobby.
  • If someone you live with or the person driving you to your appointment is currently feeling sick or has any early flu-like symptoms or a respiratory illness; has been exposed to a COVID-19 patient, or has traveled outside the country in a high-risk country according to the CDC, please call us at (702) 731-2088 to reschedule.
