Toric IOL
Pre-existing astigmatism can be corrected at the time of cataract surgery to improve your vision without glasses. Astigmatism causes a distorted view of objects and is related to the lens or cornea having a “warped” shape. Corneal astigmatism is corrected with incisions placed in the cornea – LRI’s (Limbal Relaxing Incisions), or with a special Toric IOL (intraocular lens). The procedure is chosen based on the amount of astigmatism and may require both types of procedures or even LASIK/PRK if there are large amounts of astigmatism. The surgeons at Shepherd Eye Center have many years of experience using all of these techniques to give you the best possible chance of reducing your need for glasses after cataract surgery.
